NGEC applauds the Assembly for promoting gender issues

NGEC applauds the Assembly for promoting gender issues

by RITA DAMARY / Wednesday, 15 March 2023 / Published in Nakuru County Assembly Blog

National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) has commended the County Assembly for its efforts in promoting gender-related issues. Led by Commissioner Caroline N. Lentupuru, NGEC visited the Assembly to discuss gender-based matters and strengthen the partnership between the National Government and the County Assembly in promoting gender equality and equity.

During the meeting, Commissioner Lentupuru applauded the Speaker’s leadership in promoting gender-related issues in the county and emphasized the need for the County Assembly to work closely with the national government in implementing policies and legislation aimed at addressing these issues. The discussions focused on critical areas such as gender-based violence, women’s economic empowerment, and access to education and healthcare.

The Speaker highlighted the Assembly’s efforts in promoting gender equality and equity, including the development of gender-sensitive policies and the allocation of resources to promote women’s empowerment. He also reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to promoting gender equality and equity.

Furthermore, the Speaker noted that men have also been vulnerable to gender-based matters such as violence, health, education, and employment, among other issues. He asked NGEC to address gender-related issues affecting both men and women in all areas of society.

“The NGEC visit will enhance collaboration and partnership between the National Government and the County Assembly. The Assembly remains committed to promoting gender equality and equity and will continue to work with the national government to implement policies and legislation addressing gender-related challenges.

Gender-based violence, economic empowerment, and access to education and healthcare are critical issues that require urgent attention and collaboration between different levels of government. Developing gender-sensitive policies and allocating resources to promote both men’s and women’s empowerment are significant steps towards achieving gender equality and equity,” Speaker Karuri said.
