Nakuru County’s aim to regain its previous status as a vibrant industrial hub has received a boost after President William Samoei Ruto announced that the Government has set aside Sh 1 billion for an industrial park. The park will be the second one after the Naivasha Industrial Park, for which construction plans are underway.
In an effort to boost the County’s industrial growth, the President, who spoke in Nakuru today, tasked the County leadership to search for 500 acres of land to set up the industrial park. He also asked them to allocate funds towards the park.
Speaker Joel Karuri Maina, who was in attendance, welcomed the move to grant Nakuru County a second Industrial Park.
“The industrial park will attract investors to boost local manufacturing and create employment for thousands of youths in the county,” said the Speaker as County Assembly Members who were also in attendance echoed his sentiments.
In the past two decades, the town experienced slowed manufacturing activity and a sharp decline in industries, resulting in droves of people being rendered jobless with a ripple effect of higher poverty levels.
The President also said his government will equip some of the health facilities within the county to provide high-quality healthcare services.
